The Pats signed Marcus Stroud to play DE but it will eventually be Wilkerson who will take over. Very similar to former Patriot all-pro Richard Seymour.
34. Buffalo Bills: Christian Ponder, QB, Florida St.
There will be a lot of movement, possibly into the late 1st round as there will be a mad dash for QB’s. Ponder is the most “pro-ready” QB in this draft.
35. Cincinnati Bengals: Mikel LeShoure, RB, Illinois
Cedric Benson will be looking for a big pay day and the Bengals more than likely will not be willing to meet his demands…especially if they can draft a similar player in LeShoure with significantly more upside.
36. Denver Broncos: Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina
It appears that Austin has put some of the character red flags behind him as he has been skyrocketing up drafboards following a tremendous series of off-season workouts. The Broncos address a major weakness in the 2nd round and still end up with possibly the best DT in this draft.
37. Cleveland Browns: Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
The Browns will be happy to see Clayborn still available at pick #37 as they are in desperate need to revitilize their defensive line.

38. Arizona Cardinals: Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona
Look for Arizona to replace veteran Joey Porter with one of the best 3-4 OLB pass rushers in this draft. Reed played for one of the best defensive minds in college football in Mike Stoops, and should make an immediate impact for the Cardinals.
39. Tennessee Titans: Colin Kaepernick, QB, Nevada
With Vince Young’s departure imminent, the Titans desperately need to address the quarterback position. Kaepernick would be a solid fit, eventually taking over for veteran Kerry Collins.
40. Dallas Cowboys: Ras-I Dowling, CB, Virginia
Dowling may end up being the biggest steal in this draft. If he can overcome his nagging injury issues, the Cowboys could find themselves with a top 10 value in the 2nd round.
41. Washington Redskins: J.J. Watt, DE/DT, Wisconsin
After trading back, the Redskins may have to trade back up to get him, but would be overjoyed if Watt fell to them at pick #41. Absolute stud who with time will develop into the perfect DE fit in the Redskins 3-4 scheme.
42. Houston Texans: Cameron Heyward, DE/DT, Ohio St.

With Wade Phillips taking over the defense, the Texans are making the transition to the 3-4. Heyward would excel in Phillips’ system, and is a major value pick this deep into round 2.

With no viable option at QB here in round 2, look for the Vikings to continue to upgrade their aging defensive line, and possibly trade for Donavan McNabb once the lockout is lifted.
44. Detroit Lions: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA
At one point, Ayers was considered a lock in round 1, but following a disappointing performance at the combine, his stock has dropped considerably. Nice value in round 2 though, as the Lions address a pressing need at OLB.
45. San Francisco 49ers: Sam Acho, OLB, Texas
Acho has seen his stock rise over the past month and fits a significant need for the ‘9ers. Best pure pass rushing OLB available with this pick.
46. Denver Broncos (via Miami): Robert Sands, S, West Virginia
Denver needs to upgrade their aging secondary, in particular, Brian Dawkins who is in the twilight of his career. Sands backed up his production on the field by putting up impressive combine numbers to go along with his 6’4” 200lbs frame.
47. St. Louis Rams: Rahim Moore, S, UCLA
Following the departure of O.J. Otogwe, the Rams have a significant hole to fill in their secondary. Many consider Moore to be the best safety in the draft.
48. Oakland Raiders: Stefen Wisniewski, C/G, Penn St.
The Raiders could have themselves a franchise center, as they hope Wisniewski will follow in his uncle’s footsteps, as a former all-pro Raider offensive lineman.
49. Jacksonville Jaguars: Rodney Hudson, OL, Florida St.
Jacksonville had one of the best rushing attacks in football last year. With Hudson, they will add some athleticism and depth at the guard position.
50. San Diego Chargers: Benjamin Ijalana, OL, Villanova
Look for San Diego to improve their run blocking up front. Ijalana’s stock has risen significantly and will immediately upgrade the Chargers offensive line.
51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Orlando Franklin, OL, Miami
Tampa Bay surprised a lot of people last year as they narrowly missed the playoffs. They have one of the best young QB’s in the game, and a powerful rushing attack. Franklin should help keep Freeman upright, and open up holes for the Bucs’ running game.
52. New York Giants: Chimdi Chekwa, CB, Ohio St.
The Giants secondary has been solid overall, but has lacked elite speed and athleticism at the corner position. Chekwa is a superior athlete with a nose for the ball, and should step in and make an impact right away as a nickel corner, eventually taking over a starting role.
53. Indianapolis Colts: Marcus Cannon, OT, TCU
The Colts really struggled to protect Peyton Manning last year, and struggled even more to open up holes in the running game. Cannon is surprisingly athletic for his size, and could be the franchise tackle the Colts have been lacking.
Sheard is one of the more underrated players in this draft and may not make it out of the first round. If he does, look for the Eagles to scoop him up as his aggressive bull rushing style will compliment Trent Cole on the other side.
55. Kansas City Chiefs: Dontay Moch, OLB, Nevada
After posting a 4.40 40 time at the combine, Moch’s stock has skyrocketed. After playing DE during his tenure at Nevada, the Chiefs will hope that Moch can make the transition to 3-4 OLB and ultimately replace veteran Mike Vrabel.
56. New Orleans Saints: Randall Cobb, WR/RB, Kentucky
The Saints are always looking to add weapons to their already stacked offense. Randall Cobb will be able to contribute in a hybrid role very similar to Reggie Bush.
57. Seattle Seahawks: Davon House, CB, New Mexico St
Seattle’s secondary struggled mightily throughout the season and desperately needs an upgrade. House was very productive during his college tenure and has tremendous upside.
58. Baltimore Ravens: Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian
Gates is yet another player that helped himself tremendously at the combine. His electrifying speed and athleticism can take the top off opposing defenses and open up the underneath routes for possession guys Derrick Mason and Anquan Boldin.

Ballard is yet another DE/DT that can be moved around the defensive line in a 4-3 depending on the situation in order to create matchup problems.

A number of teams will pass on Danny Watkins because of his age (will turn 27 during the season) but this is precisely why the Patriots will take him. The Pats are built to win right now, and Watkins can step right in and fill a void on the offensive line right away.
61. San Diego Chargers (via Jets): Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh
There has been much talk that the Chargers going after a WR with one of their multitude of picks in the first 3 rounds. GM A.J. Smith compared Baldwin to a young Vincent Jackson, and with Jackson’s contract due to expire soon, Baldwin may be too hard to pass up at pick 61.
62. Chicago Bears: Stephen Pea, DT, Oregon St.
The Bears will be looking to fill the void at DT left behind by Tommie Harris. Pea wowed scouts with his strength at the combine and was a force in the middle during his years at Oregon St. Should immediately solidify the Bears’ interior defensive line.
63. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jerrell Powe, DT, Ole Miss
Powe will add depth at NT and be the eventual replacement for veteran Casey Hampton.
64. Green Bay Packers: Will Rackley, OL, Lehigh
Look for Green Bay to continue to add depth to their offensive line. Last year one of their only perceived weaknesses was with their offensive line. One can only imagine how good the Packers can be if they can re-establish a running attack and give Aaron Rodgers even more time in the pocket.

Gabbert to the Panthers is a pretty gutsy call but probably unlikely. I also think Peterson will be off the board before the Cowboys can do anything about it. Solid mock overall though
ReplyDeleteAfter his Pro Day performance, I'd say that Gabbert has pulled well ahead of Newton in the race to #1. Also,knowing what you know, how could you possibly have Mallett in the 1st round? MIA is the LAST team that would draft him in the 1st. Ireland & Sparano need to win now, and they have no 2nd round pick. They already have a big, dumb, ex-Wolverine STIFF in Henne. Do you really think they'll ignore their needs for O-line depth and speedy playmakers on offense to draft a kid who may or may not be in drug rehab soon? They'll sign someone like Vince Young or McNabb to push Henne.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I think they will BECAUSE they have no 2nd round pick. They proved last year that they don't believe in Henne and McNabb or Vince Young are actually going to command a significant amount of money because of the high demand for quarterbacks. McNabb will probably end up a starter with the Vikings, while Young sounds more realistic, but does he bring less headache?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that we can assume where McNabb, or ANY of the F.A./trade bait QBs end up just yet. McNabb could just as easily land in ARI or CIN for all we know. I know that Mallett has a Howitzer, but with all of the red flags I'd bet my bottom dollar that Jake Locker and maybe even Christian Ponder will be drafted ahead of him. I think that VY will actually be (relatively) cheap, as his agent is aware that Young isn't exactly a hot commodity these days and has EVERYTHING to prove. VY is a headache, but he also has one of the best WINNING PERCENTAGES of NFL QBs. MIA would be a perfect fit, as they have a strong defense, good OTs, and lean heavily on the power running game. Most importantly, he wouldn't be EXPECTED to start, but could push Henne to improve. I could see VY coming in for Henne at some point and playing EFFICIENTLY, and maybe even stringing together a few Ws for the Dolphins. I can see the "feel-good comeback story" halftime segments now. The only downside to the scenario is VY running loose on South Beach...
ReplyDeleteNo way the Cowboys trade up to get Peterson unless he gets down to pick #7, which seems possible with the way that the QB situation looks. And it is possible that they dont even trade up to get him, as he could fall into their slot if all of the other teams are SET on fixing other parts of their offense. Otherwise they seem to be happy with sitting tight and getting Prince with the 9th overall.
ReplyDeleteI know that Austin Pettis kid, and if all those Teams / GMs pass on him for those other unproven WRs shame on them, for passing on one of the top WRs in the DRAFT.....I'm thinking he could have some NFL personel on the verge of being FIRED, for overlooking him........
ReplyDeleteIm probably one of the only ones that have mocked Pettis in the top 3 rounds. I have watched his game film, and watched him perform reciever drills at the combine and I love his skill set. He is one of the more polished recievers in this draft, and is going to be an absolute steal for someone in this draft

These mock drafts are going to be tossed in the garbage as soon as the GM's start wheeling and dealing....My guess is that there will be no less than 4 trades on day 1
ReplyDeleteThe Giants should trade Osi and Sintim (possibly a team with a 3-4 defense) to a team in the upper part of the first round and grab Von Miller. Then select a O lineman with there 1st pick.
